Geordie's Trailer build for Tandem Island

Postby G man » Mon Feb 06, 2012 8:33 pm

Well I got buisy and have almost finished the trailer build-up for my new Tandem Island.

Early last year, I bought a secondhand (hardly used) jetski trailer to convert for my AI.

I used it a few times with the jetski rollers and a bit of wetsuit rubber to go over the rollers (cut from old wetty sleves and legs ).
But this was a pain to line it up and nasty to fall off the trailer when climbing over the trailer pulling the boat on. Decided that I wanted a flat deck to walk on.

Stripped it down and extended the drawbar.

I am using aluminium decking from a tray-back utility.
It was planned for the AI but now I am making it longer for the new TI.

This is with the AI cradles.

Welded heavy wall tube around the edges.

And here is the TI Dolly mounted on the front. (still have to finish a few things).

Thanks,
it has taken a fair bit of sitting in the driveway and looking at the trailer and boat (with a beer to help me think).

I still have not worked out a good way of connecting and easily removing the trolly. Also ordered another cradle so that the two can stay on the trailer and just the front one with wheels can be detatched for wheeling the TI down the beach if needed.

Quality workmanship on the mods their mate. Top effort.
You've got all that room now to store your gear for the up north trip.
So much easier to unload the yak.
